Looking for vids and vidders....

I'm sure you've all already heard the exciting news that the next VídUKon goes down in May 2013!!

I am playing with the idea of putting together a vid show that showcases European vidding. At the last VidUKon there was a UK themed vid show, but this time I'd like to focus on non-british vidders, source and non-english songs. At this point the concept is still pretty vague, so I thought I'd trawl the internets a bit to see what's already out there. 

So, if you know any other French, German, Italian, Swedish, Russian etc vidders out there that are not on my flist, let me know (I'm guessing there are some vidders who prefer to blog/interact in their own language and I want to make sure I throw the net as wide as possible. I'm also looking for recs for any vids using non-english European source or songs (not neccessarily the vidders native language, though I assume that's the most likely scenario...) Self-recs are defenitely encouraged!

If you know of any non-english vidding coms please feel free to repost this entry with a link to this post, that would be very helpful.

Since self-recs are encouraged, I'll point out one of my vids. I vidded My Name is Nobody which is an Italien/French/German co-production. The music is by Ennio Morricone. You know, my first impulse was thinking "Interesting, I haven't vidded anything that's not American." And then it dawned on me, weird :) Also, I'm German, I'm not sure if you know :)

I didn't realize you're German - I am, too, but I live in the UK so I'm not really in touch with German fandom sites etc. Do you happen to know any other German vidders that are not of my flist? Or any German vidding boards or fandom comms or such?

My Arrivée (http://laurashapiro.dreamwidth.org/312042.html) uses a French source: La Belle Et La Bête (Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast). The music is by a French-Canadian, incidentally.

I've also vidded a K-drama -- are you thinking of just Europe, at this point?

I think all the European vidders I know are known to you as well, but I'll let you know if I come up with any.

Weeeeeell. Having an idea (particularly a vague one like this) is the easy part. I've never done a vid show before, but after attending Greensilver's pannel at VVC I feel at least marginally qualified?

Thanks so much for the rec, that's a real contender. If I'm honest, I'd love to have an all European vid show, if I can find the diversity of vids. The challenge will be to tap into the more local communities, I would love show case vids and vidders that are normally not that visible in the LJ community, either because they prefer different platforms or due to language barriers.

If you do this, I would very much like to make a premiere for it. I have project in the works for a Swedish show with a Swedish language song that I was vaguely thinking of premiering at VidUKon anyway. (See icon.)

Oh, and just remembered Valika who made the Rise of the Planet of the Apes vid I got for Festivids last year is Russian (or I came to that conclusion somehow) but I'm not sure she has an LJ/DW account.

Oh, oh, oh, oh my god..... *dance* I would LOVE to have a premiere. And I was actually thinking about just that source because you were squeeing about it so much and it sounded so beautiful. I even checked out DVD availability because I was considering offering it for festivid (I didn't in the end) because it sounded just like the type of show that SHOULD have a bigger exposure via vids, and that's kind of what I am aiming for here. I am sure many countries have little gems of shows that deserve a vid of their own.

And to have a triple Sweden whammy like that (source, song & vid) would be particularly beautiful.

lilly_the_kid already mentioned chayiana, iirc she has at least one vid to a German song. I recently discovered a funny Russian Thor vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERFpc-PaHhU), but it relies a lot on the dialogue, I'm not sure how funny it is without? Though my favorite scene at 1:06 is probably easy to understand ^^
A Russian friend of mine said that the Russian vid comms she knows are locked, but maybe there are others.

*waves* I'm planning a vid for a German film with music by a German band (although with French lyrics, maybe - not sure how that's gonna work together yet). I'll start working on it after the Festivids madness is over. I can get back to you when it's done? :)

No rec comes to mind at this point. I have vidded a bit in french but I imagine you know that already.
You might wanna check Milly's panel from last year at VVC, she did something on vidding as a second language (not in english), she might have some suggestions/recs for you :)

Well, I have to see how it pans out. I've had half an eye on La Maree Haute, which I love. Unless you want to vid some shiney French source that people need to know about as a premiere? ;)

I'll have to wait until I'm back in the UK to check the vid out, since German youtube has it blocked (they're the worst). This definately meets the specs, as long as either vidder, song or source is European. Would you be able to provide a translation for the lyrics?

OMG This is SUCH a cool idea! I've been meaning to vid a German song (or source, or both) for ages. This would be a great opportunity...

I'm still DYING to go to VidUKon but getting to Cardiff is a bit of a hassle and fairly expensive to boot :-/

And I just remembered - such_heights over at DW did a vid for Doctor Who set to a song called "Glosoli" by Sigur Ros, and they sing in Icelandic. (Occasionally they sing in a made-up language, too, so maybe check with her first :-) It's a great vid, though!)

Oh, and this might not qualify as a fanvid but this premiered at a smallish German sci-fi con a few years ago and I still laugh tears everytime I watch it. BRILLIANCE.

Oh, but you totally have to come to VidUKon! I know Cardiff is a bit out of the way, but it's totally worth it. If you can make your way to Manchester I can offer you a crash pad. Easy Jet flies to Hamburg, Berlin & Munich and Ryan Air to Bremen. Last year me and jagwriter78 went down to Cardiff by train, and I probably would prefer to do this again, but the train fairs have gone up a bit this year I think.

Oh, thank you so much, that first link is amazing, just the thing I am looking for! Luckily I have a couple of people of my flist who speak Russian and can help with communication.

Premiers would be even better, but at this point it is too early to commission any vids since the programming has not even yet been confirmed. At the moment I am predominantly looking for European vidders, source & music, but my plan is still pretty vague at this point. What is the source you're planning on vidding?

I'm not sure how much of the site is dedicated to vidding, but I've had this site bookmarked for a few years now: http://fargate.ru/ - I've found some great Farscape vids in there.

m_a_r_i_k_s hooked me up with a great Farscape vid from there and told me once that there are a lot of Russian Farscape fans - she might be willing to help with more Russian vidding sites, recs and the like?
