The front end of 2013 was incredibly busy for me and I really struggled to meet the deadline for VidUKon - it took a really limited source (movie) and short song to make this happen. This is a sort of fix-it vid, since the movie is actually a weired mix between a bitter-sweet underdog friendship story, sprinkled with some rather bad comedic set pieces. I cut out all the crappy comdey and just foucused on the story between the two leads. The downside of short songs is that they are frigging short, so I had to cut lose a lot of scenes that I really wanted to have in the vid. Endless gratitude to

icepixie who did a brilliant beta job on ultra short notice, even with referrence to the German lyrics. My flist never ceases to amaze me!

Vid: Moment of Truth

Hidden under a lot of frat boy humor, football and teen romance 'Varsity Blues' has some poignant story lines about institutional bullying sanctioned by a whole community - all for the greater good of bringing home yet another football trophy . I tried to dig out that story line with the invaluable beta-help from

counteragent and used an iconic sports antheme as counterpoint to the reality of playing varsity sports - the exitement and exhilaration, the disappointments, and the emotional cruelty and physical damage. I'm not sure I managed that - but you can always just watch the vid for the Van Der Beek and the football, and play 'spot the starts of tomorrow'.

I give you.....my first ever Festivid!
Oh my, Rubicon, how I am going to miss you, the three dimensional characters, the great use of geometric shapes and muted colours, unhurried pacing, understated acting and skillful use of dialog, - and silence. Where else do you get a show with a canonically gay couple where their sexual orientation is not part of a plotline and is not once mentioned explicitly.
I am eternally grateful to isagel for giving me the chance to do a Rubicon Vid and providing such thoughtful prompts that gave me ample inspiration but were not restrictive at all (not at all easy to do). And for being so gracious to squee all over my vid and rec it and make me feel like I'd achieved my aim of making her happy.

I lost 2 hours of my life this morning following a link into fandom wank teritory. Note to self: You know better!

On to more important news. With the help of

rhoboat's terrific
tutorial
over at Foolish Passion and a LOT of trial and error I've managed to set up streaming from my own web site. With BAM having gone under I thought the best way to go was to be independant of any streaming services. So chuffed with myself right now. Big thanks also to

sol_se , how actually told me you could stream from your own web site (yes, I'm that dumb) and pointed me in the right direction.

While I'm waiting for my beta to take my current vid project apart I've made a little tribute vid.
