I'm sure you've all already heard the exciting news that the next VídUKon goes down in May 2013!!

I am playing with the idea of putting together a vid show that showcases European vidding. At the last VidUKon there was a UK themed vid show, but this time I'd like to focus on non-british vidders, source and non-english songs. At this point the concept is still pretty vague, so I thought I'd trawl the internets a bit to see what's already out there.

So, if you know any other French, German, Italian, Swedish, Russian etc vidders out there that are not on my flist, let me know (I'm guessing there are some vidders who prefer to blog/interact in their own language and I want to make sure I throw the net as wide as possible. I'm also looking for recs for any vids using non-english European source or songs (not neccessarily the vidders native language, though I assume that's the most likely scenario...) Self-recs are defenitely encouraged!

If you know of any non-english vidding coms please feel free to repost this entry with a link to this post, that would be very helpful.

Eeeeeeeeeee! I love this concept!

If you do this, I would very much like to make a premiere for it. I have project in the works for a Swedish show with a Swedish language song that I was vaguely thinking of premiering at VidUKon anyway. (See icon.)

Oh, and just remembered Valika who made the Rise of the Planet of the Apes vid I got for Festivids last year is Russian (or I came to that conclusion somehow) but I'm not sure she has an LJ/DW account.

Splendid, I had heard the name before but don't know her. I found her on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] valika56. She's Hungarian and even has a couple of vids to Hungarian songs. Total win, thanks!

Oh, I've just read the news about your VidUCon project and wanted to tell you, that I've made 3 Stargate vids for Hungarian songs a couple of years ago.;)

Additionally, I recommend you my German friend, kahesha (http://kahesha-vids.dreamwidth.org)'s videos. They are great and she made some of them for German songs.:)

Good luck, your idea to show different European vidders/vids are awesome!

Edit: I've almost forgot to recommend the most wonderful video I've ever seen, it's The Tree (http://newkidfan.livejournal.com/163585.html) by newkidfan. She's French and it was made for a French song.:)

Yes, you're too late to rec yourself, but thanks for the other two, I will check them out. Same question I ask everybody, would you be able/willing to provide translations for subtitles if needed?

There are versions of these vids with English subtitles already, you can download them from my website.:)

The above mentioned vids are: Awekening (SG-1), James Bond (SGA) and Since Ancient Time (also SGA).

Found the ones with subtitles! Thanks. I love Awakening - I just wish it was longer, vidlets are not great for con settings....

YOu're welcome. I see your point. Awakening was made for a challenge, where the task was to make an exactly 38 second long Stargate video. Believe me, it was SO HARD to make this as short. :D

I made one more video - The Ballad of the Last Unicorn - for a non-English song, it's not a Hungarian one, it's a beautiful Gaelic song and I don't understand the lyrics at all.:P

Well, I guess this would be your chance to remake the vid full length! Can I tempt you? :)

Oh, oh, oh, oh my god..... *dance* I would LOVE to have a premiere. And I was actually thinking about just that source because you were squeeing about it so much and it sounded so beautiful. I even checked out DVD availability because I was considering offering it for festivid (I didn't in the end) because it sounded just like the type of show that SHOULD have a bigger exposure via vids, and that's kind of what I am aiming for here. I am sure many countries have little gems of shows that deserve a vid of their own.

And to have a triple Sweden whammy like that (source, song & vid) would be particularly beautiful.

Hi there,

I just wanted to check in to see whether you're still considering to do a Premier. There's no pressure, it's just a head-count at this point, vids are not due til end of March.

I definitely want to do a premiere for your show, and I'm fairly certain I'll manage in time. Though of course you should feel free to also use the Das Leben Der Anderen vid, too. Let me know if I should send you a better copy of it.

It doesn't say anywhere on the site - that I can find - when you have to have a vidshow playlist ready as a VJ. Is that also end of March? I feel like I'm going to need a crash course in how this is supposed to work technically. And I haven't actually heard for sure that my show is a go yet. Just trying to be ahead of the game.

The deadline for premieres for vid shows is also the 31st of March. The vids needs to be spliced into audio (wav) and video (mpeg) for the DVD and named identically, normally with the vid show title at the start e.g. faith_bestvidever.wav & faith_bestvidever.mpg
Here is the post for last Vidukon: http://vidukon.livejournal.com/26463.html
The show should be around 50 minutes. No official announcements for this year out yet, but then I'm not doing the DVD burning this time, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

Oh, so excited for your premiere - do you have an approx runtime for that? just so that I know how much time to block out on spread sheet. (yes - I'm dorky like that!)

Hey, I have a spreadsheet, too! *g*

As it stands on the timeline now, my vid is 03:26. It may go a few seconds longer to make sure there's time to read the credits, but if you put it down at 03:30 that's probably erring on the side of caution.

By the way, I just found an amazing and appropriate Carnivale vid on YouTube. On closer scrutiny, it turned out to be an obsessive24 vid reposted by someone else without clear credit. *headdesks times a million* *dies laughing* I'm just going to make this vid show "Nicky and Chaila Vid Religion, Like, A Lot" and be done with it, okay? *headdesks some more*
