Who are you?
Sunday, 9 September 2012 12:52 pmInspired by a poll by
colls a little while back. I thought it would be nice to find out a bit more about the peoples on my flist, what common interest we have, how you participate in fandome and what other stuff you get up to. Also, I've never done a poll before, and I really want to play with the poll function. I'll hide it under a cut, so if this is a slow Sunday,
First off - TV fandoms (It's a random selection with an US bias, not comprehensive in any shape, way or form)

Date: Sunday, 9 September 2012 12:12 pm (UTC)I wish the polls would have had an option along the lines of "Used to watch it, not anymore", though. I have a few shows along that line on the list and while I was leaning towards certain answers with most of them I had to opt out of grading Supernatural entirely as I basically went straight from super fannish to "Let's never speak of that show again".
Ah, I really wish I'd participate more in fandom again. I used to write so much fanfiction. Read it, too. It's sad :-/

Date: Sunday, 9 September 2012 01:09 pm (UTC)Darn. I totally missed out the 'used to feel fannish about but not anymore' variety of watching. But too late now, LJ won't let me edit the polls, so I'd have to re-do it, and I don't feel up to that.
Ah, I really wish I'd participate more in fandom again.
Well, as you get older it's all about fitting fandom in with your RL. Most people find that between job/family/friends/other intersts the time allocated to fandome decreases. But quantity is not quality - just make sure the time you spend in the fandomverse of your choice counts!!!

Date: Sunday, 9 September 2012 01:13 pm (UTC)Aahrgh! I knew I'd mess it up somewhere along the way. Did I mention it's my first poll? I'd probably should have gone with a less ambitous project - something like 'Are you a fan?' Yes No
It won't let edit the polls, though - so I'm spamming today. :)

Date: Sunday, 9 September 2012 01:49 pm (UTC)Haven is one I really, really, really wanted to like, because the premise is right up my alley, but I watched the whole first season and just couldn't connect to any of the characters, and was left frustrated by the slowness with which the arc was being revealed. I might go back one day, maybe (or at least read the Wikipedia article when it's all over)...

Date: Sunday, 9 September 2012 06:42 pm (UTC)Yes, Bones is vey inconsistent nowadays. I'm a season behind (I think?) but am still watching. But episodes are very much hit & miss, depending how silly the plot is and which intern they've got that week. It's okay, but no way as enjoyable as it used to be. Sweets is graining, I agree.
If I'm going into a show trying to like it, it rarely works out for me. Something about too high expectations, I guess?

/is a nerd
Some shows I'm simply behind on - LOL! and some I like more than others that I've seen. Like I enjoy Haven more than H50 although I watch both. Some I used to be fannish in once upon a time, but not so much anymore - like Farscape.
A couple shows I've never heard of. Are they UK shows? -- Lewis & Wire in the Blood??
I plan to watch Friday Night Lights, Nikita, and Homeland (after a vid I saw at VVC)

Date: Sunday, 9 September 2012 06:58 pm (UTC)Lewis is a UK crime show, very british, distinguished, slow etc. Wire in the Blood is a bit like the UK version of Criminal Minds, but it's just a police officer and a psychologist.
FNL & Homeland are great shows if you like dramatic, RL settings. Nikita is fun, though I don't like the male lead very much. I didn't know there was a Nikita vid at VVC. Was it a premiere?

Date: Monday, 10 September 2012 12:20 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about TONS! There really is so much out there.
The vid I"m thinking about is for Homeland, fan_eunice's one and it was a premiere. It has made me add Homeland to my 'to-watch' list.

Date: Monday, 10 September 2012 12:53 pm (UTC)I wasn't sure how to answer in cases where I'm very behind on the show, so that I have seen every episode of the first few seasons and intend to watch all subsequent episodes, I just haven't got to it yet. I don't watch much tv on a weekly basis anymore, apart from what I watch with my mom as it runs on Swedish television. Most of the shows I care most about, I watch in intensive many-episodes in a row sessions that can be months apart.
Teen Wolf is a weird fandom for me in that I've never seen the show and don't especially want to, but I do read the fic, because it tends to hit a lot of my bullet proof kinks.

Date: Monday, 10 September 2012 06:46 pm (UTC)Like the 'I felt fannish about the show and then it broke my heart and I never recovered from it'. Your ' Never watched the show but read the fic seems to a typical Teen Wolf phenomenon, and I'd argue that it's a fandom that works so much better if you don't actually watch the show and have to try and reconcile two totally different canons in your head. In this particular case my slash googles don't work (not for the prefered fandom pairing at least) so I'm watching and not reading. I could see both Derek/Scott or Scott/Stiles, but I don't think anybody is writing those...
In case you haven't polled all shows yet, I'd say for shows where you're behind but have seen all eps up until where you are and are planning to continue at some point at time - go with option two.
