Hannibal ep 4 canned - and gun control

THURSDAY, APRIL 26
– NBC is pulling the fourth episode of Hannibal entirely, at creator Bryan Fuller's request, reports Variety. The episode's story centered on a group of children brainwashed–by guest star Molly Shannon–into killing other children, and because of the Newtown shootings and the bombings in Boston, Fuller felt "the associations that came with the subject matter ... would inhibit the enjoyment of the overall episode." The episode isn't being rescheduled; it's being canned entirely. NBC plans to post relevant scenes from the episode that explain character development with Fuller's commentary online at a future date. Hannibal will jump straight into Episode 5, and the first season will be shorted by a week. The finale will now air on June 20. Though the entire fourth episode is being pulled, NBC insists there will be no continuity issues from skipping it. The fourth episode will air overseas, however.
The States never cease to baffle me - repeated mass shotings don't move the policy makers to change gun laws, but a bomb detonation affects TV programming. Don't get me wrong, this is not a critizism of Fuller's decision - I'm sure he knows what's best, and showing some sensitiviy is welcome, I just wish the politicians did the same.
On a similar note todays BBC4's Question Time was recorded in New York, and one of the panel members said, when asked about gun control laws, that people did not demand pressure cookers to be taken off the market either due to the Boston bombing, it was just about making sure they did not get in the wrong hands. And the same applies to semi-automatic weapons. Mind boggles.
