Title: True Night
Source: Criminal Minds - episode 3x10
Song: What I've Done by Linkin Park

This vid has been a labour of love for me and had the gestation time of an elephant. I'm eternally grateful to [livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye   for her detailed betaing that enabled me to make my peace with this vid and let it go.

Download here (48MB - divx)

In this farewell
There's no blood
There's no alibi
'Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies

So let mercy come
And wash away

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands
Of uncertainty

So let mercy come
And wash away

For what I've done
I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I'm forgiving what I've done

I?ll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

While I never watched Criminal Minds, I watched that video, and this is an outstanding piece of art! <3

The song was so well used (and I don't even really have any knowledge of the source!)

*claps*

Oh, thanks so much. I was really worried whether this would be accessible to people who don't know the show, so it's great to hear that you enjoyed it despite not knowing the source.

This is a great vid, and I really enjoyed our conversation about it. You did an excellent job of getting into the mind of the killer.

You did an excellent job of getting into the mind of the killer.
That's a compliment, right? :D

I enjoyed our chat, too, and your company generally that weekend. You're a lovely person to hang out with. I hope I didn't creep you out with all that talk about psychopaths and the psychology of the abnormal mind. Sweet dreams....

[identity profile] talitha78.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Haha. No, I'm not freaked out at all. I love talking about abnormal psychology. My aversion is to actually seeing violence.

I missed a conversation about psychopaths and serial killers? Oh wait, no, I was there XD

[identity profile] cee-m.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That... was... AWESOME! I really loved this episode and you've really taken it to another level with this vid. I don't even know how to go into it. Such a beautifully constructed timeline and just the way you worked everything together to go with the break he felt... SO GOOD!

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs this comment* I really struggled with this vid and had a hard time to figure out how to structure it. It's an awesome episode, with so many layers, and I wanted to do it justice, so it's great to hear that you feel it's working.

[identity profile] cee-m.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
SOOOO working. I mean I have to vid in five minutes but I would take that five minutes and watch this again because the vid was that damn good. Seriously... I was psyched that it was a Criminal Minds vid and then started to watch it and went "Oooooh" at work... out loud... in front of people. :)

You win at life.

As someone who has vidded this song twice (which I can only blame on [livejournal.com profile] rhoboat, I have come to the conclusion that vidding any song of Linkin Park is HARD! So kudos to you for using one single episode only to do this song justice! I am still marvelling about the fact that you can make a vid about Criminal Minds without having any of the CM cast in it ;)

PS: It just dawned on my on Tuesday that I still owe you train moneeez!

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed, the song doesn't give you much to work with other then the lyrics, but it was the only song I could find that was fitting thematically. I googled "my girlfriend was killed and I became a psychopathic serial killer" but that song hasn't been written yet. :D

[identity profile] grey-bard.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I love it. This is the perfect example of the one episode vid done right. It works not only on a message and emotional level, but also on a storytelling one as well - by the end, the whole story is told and told well.

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you, this really means a lot to me! I've changed the structure of the vid several times because I was either worried that it was too linear and boring for the people who new the episode or too chaotic and confusing for the people who didn't. Looks like I found the right balance...*phew*

[identity profile] isagel.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, this is so amazing! Truly, just the idea of doing this, and then the way you've used all that gorgeous footage to tell the story. Just brilliant! And again with the genius title sequence. Really, I'm in awe of how stunning this is.

It's interesting that my favourite Criminal Minds vids rarely seem to be about the main characters. Says something about the show. Or the way fandom watches the show.

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, yes, I think I've developed a bit of a thing for titles... but honestly, both here and with the Rubicon vid I've just stolen the title of the show because I had no good ideas of my own.

And yes, I watch the show for the psychological autopsie of crimes, I love the team, but it's a mean to an end. There are however some brilliant vids featuring the team (http://tearful-eye.livejournal.com/39320.html) around... and I think I might have a Morgan/Garcia vid in me somewhere. :)

[identity profile] illariy.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cool use of different 'timelines' with the b/w and the red. I love how you fit the song to the footage. What an ending! Thank you for sharing. :D

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! Glad to hear it work for you. The source material is pretty awesome, I have to admit, I was spoiled with visually stunning clips.

[identity profile] denyce.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Loved!! Timing, music, and clips blends effortlessly. Makes this vid a keeper to rewatch. Thank you so much for sharing =)

Btw, after I dl'd this, I went ahead & dl'd your SPN vids. The 1st one I watched was Falling - at first I thought it was a special effect, but I think the files are corrupt? Too many scenes shake, and are split. Anyhoo thought you should know.

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, nothing about this vid was effortless! It's been trying to break me and wouldn't let me move on. Thanks for watching and downloading.

Thanks for letting me know about the problem with Falling Inside The Black. I've just downloaded it from the site and it works well on my computer. Any chance this is a codec/player issue? If anybody else has a moment to spare to check out whether it works for them, that would be great!

[identity profile] denyce.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope my fault! I just realized I watched it on Windows media player instead of VLC *hangshead* sorry about that - definitely not the way to view it.

Now its been viewed correctly I can say with sincerity -painful and simply gorgeous!

In future I'll finish drinking my coffee before attempting anything.

Nicely done.

[identity profile] amnisias.livejournal.com 2011-04-18 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! That means a lot, particularly coming from you, you have such a knack vidding action driven source.

[identity profile] tearful-eye.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
yay, you posted it \o/
& you already know that i love it! this show, gah.

Thanks for peri-natal care and hand-holding during delivery, your patience and detailed feedback made a world of a difference!

Oh, excellent!!

I stopped watching Criminal Minds somewhere close to the end of season four for obvious reasons (C.C. and Emily) but I still love the older seasons and three was very powerful. I loved the episode you chose and the editing is great. So it might have taken ages but the end result is something you can be proud of. I love the editing and use of multiple frames in one picture. Great job!

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hi.

I thought I'd pop by and check out one of your vids. Why haven't I done that before?! *slaps wrist*

This is awesome! Love the opening titles. I've never watched Criminal Minds (looks interesting) so I'm not familiar with the source but I loved the energy and the look of the vid.

Wonderful.
