Moment of Truth copy

Hidden under a lot of frat boy humor, football and teen romance 'Varsity Blues' has some poignant story lines about institutional bullying sanctioned by a whole community - all for the greater good of bringing home yet another football trophy . I tried to dig out that story line with the invaluable beta-help from [livejournal.com profile] counteragent and used an iconic sports antheme as counterpoint to the reality of playing varsity sports - the exitement and exhilaration, the disappointments, and the emotional cruelty and physical damage. I'm not sure I managed that - but you can always just watch the vid for the Van Der Beek and the football, and play 'spot the starts of tomorrow'.

I'm seriously in awe of how you've made a layered vid that I can read several different ways using what sounds like an 80s big hair rock band. That's... epic. I want to be able to vid like that! I don't know the source, although it reminded me strongly of Friday Night Lights. I love how you mixed together all of the hoo-rah and celebration I associated with team sports in the US - particularly small town team sports - with the grimy, morally ambiguous (or just plain wrong) reality of pushing kids beyond their limits in a way that goes well beyond discipline and which is also somehow accepted. Thank you for including it in Vidder's Choice!

Oh my, thank you! *blush* Nothing is as nice as unexpected feedback for an 'oldie'. I'm glad the diffrent aspects of the vid came through - it took me forever finding a suitable vid song, and I was not really happy with the one I picked because it's lacks variations and emphasis, but festivid time pressure made me do it. I also wasn't sure of putting it into the Vidder's Choice because Paul Walker died last year, so it felt a bit - weired, I guess?
