Ever since season 2 aired I wanted to do a Loretta vid that showed her tenacity & resilience and did not depict her as a victim. A lot of her spunkyness and strength is in the dialog and there is only relatively little footage of her, so it was quite hard to vid, but thankfully

counteragent and

barkley took mercy on me and provided extensive beta-duties in the face of work pressures, child rearing, traveling around the globe and film-making. Since this premiered at VVC and I knew a large proportion of viewers would not be familiar with the source I tried to structure the narrative in a way that would be accessible to a large audience.

Yay! I heard this was really well received and I'm thrilled for you!

I love that you made a Justified vid, and I really love that it's a Loretta vid. The song choice (and version) works so well - the POV feels like it's part her father and part Raylan (and all Loretta), which makes it flow very nicely.

NGL, I was a bit nervous when I saw this song in the program as I'm currently using it too, but a different version/artist and different fandom - *whew*. So, um.... yes.... I love the song choice. LOL!

And like counteragent mentions above, I heard lots of positive comments about this vid as well. Great job!!

Thanks a lot, I was quite pleased with the outcome given that it was my first VVC premiere, but a bit disappointed with the picture quality - it was the first time I ripped from DVD, but honestly, it didn't look any better than vids from d/l source up there (it's shiny on the coputer though, so it was still worth it.

I don't care about re-using a song, great songs deserve a lot of vids just as does great source. And if you're doing a different fandom it's going to be a totally different vid anyways. Also, this song is pretty unique both in message and in terms of what it allows you to do with POV, so it should be vidded A LOT. Can I ask what fandom it is? *curious*

I didn't notice the picture quality being off, but I could only see half the screen from where I was sitting anyway. LOL! I'm sure the copy on the DVD is good, no? Mine's still sitting here wrapped in plastic.

Right now it's a Jo-vid from Ellen's POV but I might have to expand that to Bobby and maybe a few others if I don't have enough clips. The version I'm using has female vocals (band is called Solas) and is really quite different despite having the same message. I agree, it is such a fascinating song, and it should be vidded A LOT. What else can we vid it to? ;)

Oh, that's going to be a totally different song, with a female POV and artist. This sounds really exciting. I'd try to stick to those two and rather edit the song if you don't have enough source.

I don't consider submitting to VVC brave, it's no different than posting to the internet. But it helps that I'm not to fussed about peoples opinions. Not that I don't love postive feedback or solid concrit, but my main reason for vidding is my enjoyment of DOING it. It's great if I do it well, but even if not, I still enjoy the process and the challenges it brings with it tremendously.

So almost two years later and I finally finished my 'Girl in the War' vid. I was thoroughly amused when I dug up your post again (and re-watched your Loretta vid -- still SO AWESOME btw) and saw one of your betas was counteragent as she took a look at mine as well --- KARMA! or something. ha!

I do live in Lexington...THE Lexington! Just up I-75 from Harlan. Every time Raylan or Art reference Tates Creek Road I get all warm and fuzzy feelin' - I travel that road almost every day! Fun to have a show that I idolize set in my town, just wish they would actually shoot some footage here. The countryside and town are so much prettier than the CA location they pass off as the Bluegrass.

That really is Harlan that you see in the intro - and scenes taken out on I-75 too.

Not at all. I love to actually KNOW stuff about people I interact with on the internets. It must be pretty annoying that they don't actually film anywhere near Kentucky. I think the pilot had more footage on loaction, and that has a distinctively different look to the later episodes. They've been avaoiding long-shots of towns and scenery ever since...Plus, having Timothy anywhere in the vicinity would be a big plus, albeit possibly distracting...

If Tim were in town, I would call in sick every day until he left - trust me! As the show is now so mega-popular, I think a few actual shots of the Federal Building and downtown Lexington are in order, as are some shots of actual horse farms and gently rolling pastures (so much more beautiful than what passes for the landscape on the show) ~ we *are* famous for that, you know!

Have you noticed how characters will, on occasion, be shown drinking an Ale-8? It is a caffeinated ginger ale originated and bottled near Lexington since 1926. We do appreciate little touches like that - showing some actual details of life in central Kentucky.

I agree, given the amount of success they have it shouldn't be too hard to find time and money for a small crew to come up once a year to shoot some external footage. And that would really improve the authenticity of the show.

Oh, since you're local, what I always wanted to know: How good (or not) is Tim's accent on the show. I can hear a drawl that makes it sound vaguely southern, but as a foreigner I have trouble to pitch it beyond that. I think Walter Goggins is one of the few 'native speakers'?

I wanted to watch this vid (because it's yours!) but I haven't yet been able to start Justified and so didn't want to get spoiled. Probably I just should have watched, because I got spoiled for it anyway in a discussion with others later in the weekend, but I was trying to be good. *g*

Download and mark unwatched? That's what I do with those vids - I've got a whole bunch of FNL vids on my harddrive that I'm dying to see but that might spoil me.Avoiding spoilers at VVC IS HARD (and having to close you're eyes during vid shows makes you feel silly) but spoilers are evil, so I totally approve of your approach.

I was sorry we didn't get to spend more time together - but at least there was breakfast.

For the record? This vid convinced me to at least give Justified a chance, and it's been moved to near the top of my to-watch list.

Oh, that would be great, even though it's not really a recruiter vid. A disclaimer might be in order, Loretta is not a main character. But she's a great kid, full of snark and general contempt for adults. I can't blame her. Loretta's story arc is over season 2, but I think staring with that would be a bit confusing, and the seasons are just 12 episodes, so you're still better off starting at the beginning.

Loretta vid yay! The song's so perfect for her--for the notion of Raylan, who kinda-sorta (but not really) escaped Harlan County's closed circuit of drugs and family rivalries, looking at Loretta and seeing a kid who shouldn't have to be dealing with all that crap but *is*. You present Loretta's place in the narrative and her relationships with all the adults around her really well.

Basically, this makes me want to rewatch all of s2. *g*

Oh my! Do you know that funny feeling you get in the pit in the stomach when somebody totally 'gets' what you wanted to do with a vid? I just had that - you just summarized so perfectly and succinctly what it's all about. I was so happy when I saw someone had made a Justified vid, and for it to be to this song and about Loretta made it all the better. I loved her arc and her relationship with Raylan so much in S2 and this vid did a really great job of showing it and what she went through. Awesome.

Ah, this comment made me glow inside for a moment. Thanks for taking the time, this was EXACTLY the response I was going for! I love Justified to start with, but Loretta's story arc just broke me, and I thought that relationship they had was so raw, and honest, and sad, all rolled into one. Raylan setting Loretta straight about going into foster care was just ..... no, no words, sorry.

I really liked this. Instead of all the fire and anger of the dialogue on the show, this has a nice subdued quietness. I think it allows for a different take on Loretta's story and really fits her.

I really enjoyed this, even though I don't know the source. I thought the musicality was particularly well done, and the emotion revolving around the girl came through for me really clearly.
